21st December 2011 In the best of health: FirstCare hosts its first-ever Parliamentary reception with Wellbeing of Women

_

FirstCare has brought the importance of health in the workplace and effective absence management with its first parliamentary event, which was held in the House of Commons on 14 December in partnership with the charity Wellbeing of Women.

Guests to the event, which was co-sponsored and introduced by Anne McGuire MP, Shadow Work and Pensions Minister, were invited to have a number of key indicators – including blood pressure and lung capacity – checked in order to assess their own wellbeing.  Addressing the reception, FirstCare’s Elaine Hunt and Wellbeing of Women’s director Liz Campbell both noted the importance of early interventions to properly manage workplace absence and support employees, with Elaine also noting the significant increases in stress and musculoskeletal workplace absence.

The reception was co-sponsored by leading Liberal Democrat MP Norman Lamb, and attended by a range of Parliamentarians, including Shadow Business, Innovation and Skills Minister Chi Onwurah MP, Health Select Committee member Andrew George MP, and Dr Andrew Murrison MP Private Parliamentary Secretary to the Secretary of State for Health.

FirstCare would like to thank Anne McGuire and Norman Lamb for co-sponsoring what was a very successful and well received event, the MPs and Peers in attendance, and FirstCare’s team and clients for making the reception such a memorable occasion.
